Who We Are

Who we are

The Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange Limited (TTSE):

  • Facilitates the buying and selling of securities.
  • Provides a medium for companies to raise capital.
  • The TTSE is a limited liability company.

The TTSE is a Self Regulatory Organization (SRO).

  • We are responsible for developing rules and guidelines for the operation within the local stock market. These rules and guidelines are followed by the brokerage firms and listed companies.
Segments of the Stock Market

Primary Market

A Primary Market is where new securities are issued and offered for sale to the public.

An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is an example of a Primary Market. The issuing company receives the cash proceeds from the sale of the security, which are then used to fund business operations.

Prices in the Primary Market are set by the issuing company.

Secondary Market

After shares have been issued in the Primary Market and listed on a stock exchange, the shares become available for trading in the Secondary Market.

Prices in the Secondary Market are determined based on the demand and supply of the shares of a company.

Listed Companies

A Listed Company is a company whose shares are publically available for trading on an a stock exchange.
They must adhere to the rules of the stock exchange.

Examples of listed companies on the TTSE are:

Stockbroker

A Stockbroker also known as a broker/trader, is a person licensed to buy and sell securities on a stock exchange on behalf of their clients.
A Stockbroker is employed at a registered Brokerage Firm.

A Brokerage Firm is a financial institution that facilitates the buying and selling of securities between a buyer and a seller and provide investment advice.

An Investor is a person or organization that buys or sells securities that offer interest, income or capital gain.

How are Shares bought and sold?

You may place a buy or sell order with your Stockbroker.

The TTSE provides Stockbrokers with an Electronic Trading System called Avvento which is used to enter buy and sell orders and monitor the market.

When is Trading done?

Trading takes place from 9:30am to 12:00pm from Monday to Friday except on public holidays and Carnival Monday & Carnival Tuesday.
